Deuteronomy 8:1-3

This entire commandment that I command you today you must diligently
observe, so that you may live and increase, and go in and occupy the
land that the Lord promised on oath to your ancestors. Remember the
long way that the Lord your God has led you these forty years in the
wilderness, in order to humble you, testing you to know what was in
your heart, whether or not you would keep his commandments. He humbled
you by letting you hunger, then by feeding you with manna, with which
neither you nor your ancestors were acquainted, in order to make you
understand that one does not live by bread alone, but by every word
that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

Colossians 1:1-14

Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our
brother,

 To the saints and faithful brothers and sisters* in Christ in
Colossae:

Grace to you and peace from God our Father. 

 In our prayers for you we always thank God, the Father of our Lord
Jesus Christ, for we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of
the love that you have for all the saints, because of the hope laid up
for you in heaven. You have heard of this hope before in the word of
the truth, the gospel that has come to you. Just as it is bearing
fruit and growing in the whole world, so it has been bearing fruit
among yourselves from the day you heard it and truly comprehended the
grace of God. This you learned from Epaphras, our beloved
fellow-servant.* He is a faithful minister of Christ on your* behalf,
and he has made known to us your love in the Spirit.

 For this reason, since the day we heard it, we have not ceased
praying for you and asking that you may be filled with the knowledge
of God’s* will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that
you may lead lives worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, as you
bear fruit in every good work and as you grow in the knowledge of God.
May you be made strong with all the strength that comes from his
glorious power, and may you be prepared to endure everything with
patience, while joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has enabled*
you* to share in the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has
rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the
kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the
forgiveness of sins.

John 6:30-33,48-51
 
So they said to him, ‘What sign are you going to give us then, so
that we may see it and believe you? What work are you performing? Our
ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, “He
gave them bread from heaven to eat.” ’ Then Jesus said to them,
‘Very truly, I tell you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread
from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from
heaven. For the bread of God is that which* comes down from heaven and
gives life to the world.’ I am the bread of life. Your ancestors ate
the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread that
comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. I am
the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats of this
bread will live for ever; and the bread that I will give for the life
of the world is my flesh.’

Morning Psalms: Psalm 103

Psalm 103

Bless the Lord, O my soul,
   and all that is within me,
   bless his holy name. 
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
   and do not forget all his benefits— 
who forgives all your iniquity,
   who heals all your diseases, 
who redeems your life from the Pit,
   who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, 
who satisfies you with good as long as you live*
   so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. 

The Lord works vindication
   and justice for all who are oppressed. 
He made known his ways to Moses,
   his acts to the people of Israel. 
The Lord is merciful and gracious,
   slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. 
He will not always accuse,
   nor will he keep his anger for ever. 
He does not deal with us according to our sins,
   nor repay us according to our iniquities. 
For as the heavens are high above the earth,
   so great is his steadfast love towards those who fear him; 
as far as the east is from the west,
   so far he removes our transgressions from us. 
As a father has compassion for his children,
   so the Lord has compassion for those who fear him. 
For he knows how we were made;
   he remembers that we are dust. 

As for mortals, their days are like grass;
   they flourish like a flower of the field; 
for the wind passes over it, and it is gone,
   and its place knows it no more. 
But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting
   on those who fear him,
   and his righteousness to children’s children, 
to those who keep his covenant
   and remember to do his commandments. 

The Lord has established his throne in the heavens,
   and his kingdom rules over all. 
Bless the Lord, O you his angels,
   you mighty ones who do his bidding,
   obedient to his spoken word. 
Bless the Lord, all his hosts,
   his ministers that do his will. 
Bless the Lord, all his works,
   in all places of his dominion.
Bless the Lord, O my soul.

Evening Psalms: Psalm 114, 115

Psalm 114

When Israel went out from Egypt,
   the house of Jacob from a people of strange language, 
Judah became God’s* sanctuary,
   Israel his dominion. 

The sea looked and fled;
   Jordan turned back. 
The mountains skipped like rams,
   the hills like lambs. 

Why is it, O sea, that you flee?
   O Jordan, that you turn back? 
O mountains, that you skip like rams?
   O hills, like lambs? 

Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord,
   at the presence of the God of Jacob, 
who turns the rock into a pool of water,
   the flint into a spring of water.

Psalm 115

Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory,
   for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness. 
Why should the nations say,
   ‘Where is their God?’ 

Our God is in the heavens;
   he does whatever he pleases. 
Their idols are silver and gold,
   the work of human hands. 
They have mouths, but do not speak;
   eyes, but do not see. 
They have ears, but do not hear;
   noses, but do not smell. 
They have hands, but do not feel;
   feet, but do not walk;
   they make no sound in their throats. 
Those who make them are like them;
   so are all who trust in them. 

O Israel, trust in the Lord!
   He is their help and their shield. 
O house of Aaron, trust in the Lord!
   He is their help and their shield. 
You who fear the Lord, trust in the Lord!
   He is their help and their shield. 

The Lord has been mindful of us; he will bless us;
   he will bless the house of Israel;
   he will bless the house of Aaron; 
he will bless those who fear the Lord,
   both small and great. 

May the Lord give you increase,
   both you and your children. 
May you be blessed by the Lord,
   who made heaven and earth. 

The heavens are the Lord’s heavens,
   but the earth he has given to human beings. 
The dead do not praise the Lord,
   nor do any that go down into silence. 
But we will bless the Lord
   from this time on and for evermore.
Praise the Lord!
