Genesis 17:1-12a,15-16

When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram, and
said to him, ‘I am God Almighty;* walk before me, and be blameless.
And I will make my covenant between me and you, and will make you
exceedingly numerous.’ Then Abram fell on his face; and God said to
him, ‘As for me, this is my covenant with you: You shall be the
ancestor of a multitude of nations. No longer shall your name be
Abram,* but your name shall be Abraham;* for I have made you the
ancestor of a multitude of nations. I will make you exceedingly
fruitful; and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come from
you. I will establish my covenant between me and you, and your
offspring after you throughout their generations, for an everlasting
covenant, to be God to you and to your offspring* after you. And I
will give to you, and to your offspring after you, the land where you
are now an alien, all the land of Canaan, for a perpetual holding; and
I will be their God.’

 God said to Abraham, ‘As for you, you shall keep my covenant, you
and your offspring after you throughout their generations. This is my
covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your offspring
after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised. You shall
circumcise the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the
covenant between me and you. Throughout your generations every male
among you shall be circumcised when he is eight days old, including
the slave born in your house and the one bought with your money from
any foreigner who is not of your offspring. Both the slave born in
your house and the one bought with your money must be circumcised. So
shall my covenant be in your flesh an everlasting covenant. Any
uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin
shall be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant.’

 God said to Abraham, ‘As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call
her Sarai, but Sarah shall be her name. I will bless her, and moreover
I will give you a son by her. I will bless her, and she shall give
rise to nations; kings of peoples shall come from her.’

Colossians 2:6-12

As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, continue to live
your lives* in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the
faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.

 See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty
deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental
spirits of the universe,* and not according to Christ. For in him the
whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you have come to fullness
in him, who is the head of every ruler and authority. In him also you
were circumcised with a spiritual circumcision,* by putting off the
body of the flesh in the circumcision of Christ; when you were buried
with him in baptism, you were also raised with him through faith in
the power of God, who raised him from the dead.

John 16:23b-30

On that day you will ask nothing of me.* Very truly, I tell you, if
you ask anything of the Father in my name, he will give it to you.*
Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will
receive, so that your joy may be complete.
 ‘I have said these things to you in figures of speech. The hour is
coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures, but will tell
you plainly of the Father. On that day you will ask in my name. I do
not say to you that I will ask the Father on your behalf; for the
Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed
that I came from God.* I came from the Father and have come into the
world; again, I am leaving the world and am going to the Father.’

 His disciples said, ‘Yes, now you are speaking plainly, not in any
figure of speech! Now we know that you know all things, and do not
need to have anyone question you; by this we believe that you came
from God.’

Morning Psalms:  Psalm 103

Psalm 103

Bless the Lord, O my soul,
   and all that is within me,
   bless his holy name.
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
   and do not forget all his benefits—
who forgives all your iniquity,
   who heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the Pit,
   who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
who satisfies you with good as long as you live*
   so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

The Lord works vindication
   and justice for all who are oppressed.
He made known his ways to Moses,
   his acts to the people of Israel.
The Lord is merciful and gracious,
   slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
He will not always accuse,
   nor will he keep his anger for ever.
He does not deal with us according to our sins,
   nor repay us according to our iniquities.
For as the heavens are high above the earth,
   so great is his steadfast love towards those who fear him;
as far as the east is from the west,
   so far he removes our transgressions from us.
As a father has compassion for his children,
   so the Lord has compassion for those who fear him.
For he knows how we were made;
   he remembers that we are dust.

As for mortals, their days are like grass;
   they flourish like a flower of the field;
for the wind passes over it, and it is gone,
   and its place knows it no more.
But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting
   on those who fear him,
   and his righteousness to children’s children,
to those who keep his covenant
   and remember to do his commandments.

The Lord has established his throne in the heavens,
   and his kingdom rules over all.
Bless the Lord, O you his angels,
   you mighty ones who do his bidding,
   obedient to his spoken word.
Bless the Lord, all his hosts,
   his ministers that do his will.
Bless the Lord, all his works,
   in all places of his dominion.
Bless the Lord, O my soul.

Evening Psalms:  Psalm 148

Psalm 148

Praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord from the heavens;
   praise him in the heights!
Praise him, all his angels;
   praise him, all his host!

Praise him, sun and moon;
   praise him, all you shining stars!
Praise him, you highest heavens,
   and you waters above the heavens!

Let them praise the name of the Lord,
   for he commanded and they were created.
He established them for ever and ever;
   he fixed their bounds, which cannot be passed.*

Praise the Lord from the earth,
   you sea monsters and all deeps,
fire and hail, snow and frost,
   stormy wind fulfilling his command!

Mountains and all hills,
   fruit trees and all cedars!
Wild animals and all cattle,
   creeping things and flying birds!

Kings of the earth and all peoples,
   princes and all rulers of the earth!
Young men and women alike,
   old and young together!

Let them praise the name of the Lord,
   for his name alone is exalted;
   his glory is above earth and heaven.
He has raised up a horn for his people,
   praise for all his faithful,
   for the people of Israel who are close to him.
Praise the Lord!
