Joshua 1:1-18

After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord spoke to
Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying, ‘My servant Moses is
dead. Now proceed to cross the Jordan, you and all this people, into
the land that I am giving to them, to the Israelites. Every place that
the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you, as I
promised to Moses. From the wilderness and the Lebanon as far as the
great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, to the
Great Sea in the west shall be your territory. No one shall be able to
stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I
will be with you; I will not fail you or forsake you. Be strong and
courageous; for you shall put this people in possession of the land
that I swore to their ancestors to give them. Only be strong and very
courageous, being careful to act in accordance with all the law that
my servant Moses commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand
or to the left, so that you may be successful wherever you go. This
book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth; you shall meditate
on it day and night, so that you may be careful to act in accordance
with all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way
prosperous, and then you shall be successful. I hereby command you: Be
strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord
your God is with you wherever you go.’
 Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, ‘Pass through
the camp, and command the people: “Prepare your provisions; for in
three days you are to cross over the Jordan, to go in to take
possession of the land that the Lord your God gives you to possess.”
’

 To the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh
Joshua said, ‘Remember the word that Moses the servant of the Lord
commanded you, saying, “The Lord your God is providing you a place
of rest, and will give you this land.” Your wives, your little ones,
and your livestock shall remain in the land that Moses gave you beyond
the Jordan. But all the warriors among you shall cross over armed
before your kindred and shall help them, until the Lord gives rest to
your kindred as well as to you, and they too take possession of the
land that the Lord your God is giving them. Then you shall return to
your own land and take possession of it, the land that Moses the
servant of the Lord gave you beyond the Jordan to the east.’

 They answered Joshua: ‘All that you have commanded us we will do,
and wherever you send us we will go. Just as we obeyed Moses in all
things, so we will obey you. Only may the Lord your God be with you,
as he was with Moses! Whoever rebels against your orders and disobeys
your words, whatever you command, shall be put to death. Only be
strong and courageous.’

Acts 21:3-15

We came in sight of Cyprus; and leaving it on our left, we sailed to
Syria and landed at Tyre, because the ship was to unload its cargo
there. We looked up the disciples and stayed there for seven days.
Through the Spirit they told Paul not to go on to Jerusalem. When our
days there were ended, we left and proceeded on our journey; and all
of them, with wives and children, escorted us outside the city. There
we knelt down on the beach and prayed and said farewell to one
another. Then we went on board the ship, and they returned home.

 When we had finished* the voyage from Tyre, we arrived at Ptolemais;
and we greeted the believers* and stayed with them for one day. The
next day we left and came to Caesarea; and we went into the house of
Philip the evangelist, one of the seven, and stayed with him. He had
four unmarried daughters* who had the gift of prophecy. While we were
staying there for several days, a prophet named Agabus came down from
Judea. He came to us and took Paul’s belt, bound his own feet and
hands with it, and said, ‘Thus says the Holy Spirit, “This is the
way the Jews in Jerusalem will bind the man who owns this belt and
will hand him over to the Gentiles.” ’ When we heard this, we and
the people there urged him not to go up to Jerusalem. Then Paul
answered, ‘What are you doing, weeping and breaking my heart? For I
am ready not only to be bound but even to die in Jerusalem for the
name of the Lord Jesus.’ Since he would not be persuaded, we
remained silent except to say, ‘The Lord’s will be done.’

 After these days we got ready and started to go up to Jerusalem.

Mark 1:21-27

They went to Capernaum; and when the sabbath came, he entered the
synagogue and taught. They were astounded at his teaching, for he
taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. Just then
there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit, and he
cried out, ‘What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you
come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God.’ But
Jesus rebuked him, saying, ‘Be silent, and come out of him!’ And
the unclean spirit, throwing him into convulsions and crying with a
loud voice, came out of him. They were all amazed, and they kept on
asking one another, ‘What is this? A new teaching—with authority!
He* commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.’

Morning Psalms:  Psalm 148, 149, 150

Psalm 148

Praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord from the heavens;
   praise him in the heights!
Praise him, all his angels;
   praise him, all his host!

Praise him, sun and moon;
   praise him, all you shining stars!
Praise him, you highest heavens,
   and you waters above the heavens!

Let them praise the name of the Lord,
   for he commanded and they were created.
He established them for ever and ever;
   he fixed their bounds, which cannot be passed.*

Praise the Lord from the earth,
   you sea monsters and all deeps,
fire and hail, snow and frost,
   stormy wind fulfilling his command!

Mountains and all hills,
   fruit trees and all cedars!
Wild animals and all cattle,
   creeping things and flying birds!

Kings of the earth and all peoples,
   princes and all rulers of the earth!
Young men and women alike,
   old and young together!

Let them praise the name of the Lord,
   for his name alone is exalted;
   his glory is above earth and heaven.
He has raised up a horn for his people,
   praise for all his faithful,
   for the people of Israel who are close to him.
Praise the Lord!

Psalm 149

Praise the Lord!
Sing to the Lord a new song,
   his praise in the assembly of the faithful.
Let Israel be glad in its Maker;
   let the children of Zion rejoice in their King.
Let them praise his name with dancing,
   making melody to him with tambourine and lyre.
For the Lord takes pleasure in his people;
   he adorns the humble with victory.
Let the faithful exult in glory;
   let them sing for joy on their couches.
Let the high praises of God be in their throats
   and two-edged swords in their hands,
to execute vengeance on the nations
   and punishment on the peoples,
to bind their kings with fetters
   and their nobles with chains of iron,
to execute on them the judgement decreed.
   This is glory for all his faithful ones.
Praise the Lord!

Psalm 150

Praise the Lord!
Praise God in his sanctuary;
   praise him in his mighty firmament!*
Praise him for his mighty deeds;
   praise him according to his surpassing greatness!

Praise him with trumpet sound;
   praise him with lute and harp!
Praise him with tambourine and dance;
   praise him with strings and pipe!
Praise him with clanging cymbals;
   praise him with loud clashing cymbals!
Let everything that breathes praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord!

Evening Psalms:  Psalm 114, 115

Psalm 114

When Israel went out from Egypt,
   the house of Jacob from a people of strange language,
Judah became God’s* sanctuary,
   Israel his dominion.

The sea looked and fled;
   Jordan turned back.
The mountains skipped like rams,
   the hills like lambs.

Why is it, O sea, that you flee?
   O Jordan, that you turn back?
O mountains, that you skip like rams?
   O hills, like lambs?

Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord,
   at the presence of the God of Jacob,
who turns the rock into a pool of water,
   the flint into a spring of water.

Psalm 115

Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory,
   for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness.
Why should the nations say,
   ‘Where is their God?’

Our God is in the heavens;
   he does whatever he pleases.
Their idols are silver and gold,
   the work of human hands.
They have mouths, but do not speak;
   eyes, but do not see.
They have ears, but do not hear;
   noses, but do not smell.
They have hands, but do not feel;
   feet, but do not walk;
   they make no sound in their throats.
Those who make them are like them;
   so are all who trust in them.

O Israel, trust in the Lord!
   He is their help and their shield.
O house of Aaron, trust in the Lord!
   He is their help and their shield.
You who fear the Lord, trust in the Lord!
   He is their help and their shield.

The Lord has been mindful of us; he will bless us;
   he will bless the house of Israel;
   he will bless the house of Aaron;
he will bless those who fear the Lord,
   both small and great.

May the Lord give you increase,
   both you and your children.
May you be blessed by the Lord,
   who made heaven and earth.

The heavens are the Lord’s heavens,
   but the earth he has given to human beings.
The dead do not praise the Lord,
   nor do any that go down into silence.
But we will bless the Lord
   from this time on and for evermore.
Praise the Lord!
