<p class="MsoNormal">Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered:</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">‘If one ventures a word with you, will you be offended?</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>But who can keep from speaking?</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">See, you have instructed many;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>you have strengthened the weak hands.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Your words have supported those who were stumbling,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>and you have made firm the feeble knees.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">But now it has come to you, and you are impatient;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>it touches you, and you are dismayed.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Is not your fear of God your confidence,</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">‘Now a word came stealing to me,</p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>when deep sleep falls on mortals,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">dread came upon me, and trembling,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>which made all my bones shake.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">A spirit glided past my face;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>the hair of my flesh bristled.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">It stood still,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>but I could not discern its appearance.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">A form was before my eyes;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>there was silence, then I heard a voice:</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">“Can mortals be righteous before* God?</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>Can human beings be pure before* their Maker?</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Even in his servants he puts no trust,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>and his angels he charges with error;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">how much more those who live in houses of clay,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>whose foundation is in the dust,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>who are crushed like a moth.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Between morning and evening they are destroyed;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>they perish for ever without any regarding it.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Their tent-cord is plucked up within them,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>and they die devoid of wisdom.”</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Revelation 4:1-11</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">After this I looked, and there in heaven a door stood open! And the first voice, which I had heard speaking to me like a trumpet, said, ‘Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.’ At once I was in the spirit,* and there in heaven stood a throne, with one seated on the throne! And the one seated there looks like jasper and cornelian, and around the throne is a rainbow that looks like an emerald. Around the throne are twenty-four thrones, and seated on the thrones are twenty-four elders, dressed in white robes, with golden crowns on their heads. Coming from the throne are flashes of lightning, and rumblings and peals of thunder, and in front of the throne burn seven flaming torches, which are the seven spirits of God; and in front of the throne there is something like a sea of glass, like crystal.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Around the throne, and on each side of the throne, are four living creatures, full of eyes in front and behind: the first living creature like a lion, the second living creature like an ox, the third living creature with a face like a human face, and the fourth living creature like a flying eagle. And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and inside. Day and night without ceasing they sing,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">‘Holy, holy, holy,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">the Lord God the Almighty,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>who was and is and is to come.’</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">And whenever the living creatures give glory and honour and thanks to the one who is seated on the throne, who lives for ever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall before the one who is seated on the throne and worship the one who lives for ever and ever; they cast their crowns before the throne, singing,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">‘You are worthy, our Lord and God,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>to receive glory and honour and power,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">for you created all things,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>and by your will they existed and were created.’</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">He left that place and came to his home town, and his disciples followed him. On the sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astounded. They said, ‘Where did this man get all this? What is this wisdom that has been given to him? What deeds of power are being done by his hands! Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary* and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon, and are not his sisters here with us?’ And they took offence* at him. Then Jesus said to them, ‘Prophets are not without honour, except in their home town, and among their own kin, and in their own house.’ And he could do no deed of power there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and cured them. And he was amazed at their unbelief.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">The Lord watches over the strangers;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>he upholds the orphan and the widow,</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">How good it is to sing praises to our God;</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">The Lord builds up Jerusalem;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>he gathers the outcasts of Israel.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">He heals the broken-hearted,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>and binds up their wounds.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>prepares rain for the earth,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>makes grass grow on the hills.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">He gives to the animals their food,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>and to the young ravens when they cry.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">His delight is not in the strength of the horse,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>nor his pleasure in the speed of a runner;*</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">but the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him,</p>
