<p class="MsoNormal">Ecclesiasticus 3:3-9,14-17</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Those who honour their father atone for sins,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>and those who respect their mother are like those who lay up treasure.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Those who honour their father will have joy in their own children,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>and when they pray they will be heard.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Those who respect their father will have long life,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>and those who honour* their mother obey the Lord;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>they will serve their parents as their masters.*</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Honour your father by word and deed,</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">For a father’s blessing strengthens the houses of the children,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>but a mother’s curse uproots their foundations.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">For kindness to a father will not be forgotten,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>and will be credited to you against your sins;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">in the day of your distress it will be remembered in your favour;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>like frost in fair weather, your sins will melt away.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Whoever forsakes a father is like a blasphemer,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>and whoever angers a mother is cursed by the Lord.</p>

The love of the Father is not in those who love the world; for all that is in the world—the desire of the flesh, the desire of the eyes, the pride in riches—comes not from the Father but from the world. And the world and its desire* are passing away, but those who do the will of God live for ever.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Then the Jews began to complain about him because he said, ‘I am the bread that came down from heaven.’ They were saying, ‘Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How can he now say, “I have come down from heaven”?’ Jesus answered them, ‘Do not complain among yourselves. No one can come to me unless drawn by the Father who sent me; and I will raise that person up on the last day. It is written in the prophets, “And they shall all be taught by God.” Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me. Not that anyone has seen the Father except the one who is from God; he has seen the Father. Very truly, I tell you, whoever believes has eternal life.</p>
