<p class="MsoNormal">Thus says the Lord:</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Cursed are those who trust in mere mortals</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>and make mere flesh their strength,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>whose hearts turn away from the Lord.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">They shall be like a shrub in the desert,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>and shall not see when relief comes.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">They shall live in the parched places of the wilderness,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>in an uninhabited salt land.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Blessed are those who trust in the Lord,</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">in the year of drought it is not anxious,</p>

Yes, and I ask you also, my loyal companion,* help these women, for they have struggled beside me in the work of the gospel, together with Clement and the rest of my co-workers, whose names are in the book of life.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>Rejoice* in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.* Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>Finally, beloved,* whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about* these things. Keep on doing the things that you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>I rejoice* in the Lord greatly that now at last you have revived your concern for me; indeed, you were concerned for me, but had no opportunity to show it.* Not that I am referring to being in need; for I have learned to be content with whatever I have. I know what it is to have little, and I know what it is to have plenty. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of being well-fed and of going hungry, of having plenty and of being in need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me. ******************************************************************</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">‘Now my soul is troubled. And what should I say—“Father, save me from this hour”? No, it is for this reason that I have come to this hour. Father, glorify your name.’ Then a voice came from heaven, ‘I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.’ The crowd standing there heard it and said that it was thunder. Others said, ‘An angel has spoken to him.’ Jesus answered, ‘This voice has come for your sake, not for mine. Now is the judgement of this world; now the ruler of this world will be driven out. And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people* to myself.’ He said this to indicate the kind of death he was to die. The crowd answered him, ‘We have heard from the law that the Messiah* remains for ever. How can you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?’ Jesus said to them, ‘The light is with you for a little longer. Walk while you have the light, so that the darkness may not overtake you. If you walk in the darkness, you do not know where you are going. While you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may become children of light.’</p>
