<p class="MsoNormal">Then Amaziah, the priest of Bethel, sent to King Jeroboam of Israel, saying, ‘Amos has conspired against you in the very centre of the house of Israel; the land is not able to bear all his words. For thus Amos has said,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">“Jeroboam shall die by the sword,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>and Israel must go into exile</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>away from his land.” ’</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">And Amaziah said to Amos, ‘O seer, go, flee away to the land of Judah, earn your bread there, and prophesy there; but never again prophesy at Bethel, for it is the king’s sanctuary, and it is a temple of the kingdom.’</p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>Then Amos answered Amaziah, ‘I am* no prophet, nor a prophet’s son; but I am* a herdsman, and a dresser of sycomore trees, and the Lord took me from following the flock, and the Lord said to me, “Go, prophesy to my people Israel.”</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">‘Now therefore hear the word of the Lord.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">You say, “Do not prophesy against Israel,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>and do not preach against the house of Isaac.”</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Therefore, thus says the Lord:</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">“Your wife shall become a prostitute in the city,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>and your sons and your daughters shall fall by the sword,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>and your land shall be parcelled out by line;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">you yourself shall die in an unclean land,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>and Israel shall surely go into exile away from its land.” ’</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Revelation 1:9-16</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">I, John, your brother who share with you in Jesus the persecution and the kingdom and the patient endurance, was on the island called Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.* I was in the spirit* on the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet saying, ‘Write in a book what you see and send it to the seven churches, to Ephesus, to Smyrna, to Pergamum, to Thyatira, to Sardis, to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea.’</p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>Then I turned to see whose voice it was that spoke to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands, and in the midst of the lampstands I saw one like the Son of Man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden sash across his chest. His head and his hair were white as white wool, white as snow; his eyes were like a flame of fire, his feet were like burnished bronze, refined as in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of many waters. In his right hand he held seven stars, and from his mouth came a sharp, two-edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining with full force.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">When the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together, and one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. ‘Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?’ He said to him, ‘ “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.” This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: “You shall love your neighbour as yourself.” On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.’</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them this question: ‘What do you think of the Messiah?* Whose son is he?’ They said to him, ‘The son of David.’ He said to them, ‘How is it then that David by the Spirit* calls him Lord, saying,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">“The Lord said to my Lord,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">‘Sit at my right hand,</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>until I put your enemies under your feet’ ”?</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">If David thus calls him Lord, how can he be his son?’ No one was able to give him an answer, nor from that day did anyone dare to ask him any more questions.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Transgression speaks to the wicked</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">there is no fear of God</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>before their eyes.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">For they flatter themselves in their own eyes</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">The words of their mouths are mischief and deceit;</p>
