Genesis 1-2:3

In the beginning when God created* the heavens and the earth, 2the earth
was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a
wind from God* swept over the face of the waters. 3Then God said, 'Let
there be light'; and there was light. 4And God saw that the light was
good; and God separated the light from the darkness. 5God called the
light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and
there was morning, the first day.
6 And God said, 'Let there be a dome in the midst of the waters, and let
it separate the waters from the waters.' 7So God made the dome and
separated the waters that were under the dome from the waters that were
above the dome. And it was so. 8God called the dome Sky. And there was
evening and there was morning, the second day.
9 And God said, 'Let the waters under the sky be gathered together into
one place, and let the dry land appear.' And it was so. 10God called the
dry land Earth, and the waters that were gathered together he called
Seas. And God saw that it was good. 11Then God said, 'Let the earth put
forth vegetation: plants yielding seed, and fruit trees of every kind on
earth that bear fruit with the seed in it.' And it was so. 12The earth
brought forth vegetation: plants yielding seed of every kind, and trees
of every kind bearing fruit with the seed in it. And God saw that it was
good. 13And there was evening and there was morning, the third day.
14 And God said, 'Let there be lights in the dome of the sky to separate
the day from the night; and let them be for signs and for seasons and
for days and years, 15and let them be lights in the dome of the sky to
give light upon the earth.' And it was so. 16God made the two great
lights-the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule
the night-and the stars. 17God set them in the dome of the sky to give
light upon the earth, 18to rule over the day and over the night, and to
separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.
19And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day.
20 And God said, 'Let the waters bring forth swarms of living creatures,
and let birds fly above the earth across the dome of the sky.' 21So God
created the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, of
every kind, with which the waters swarm, and every winged bird of every
kind. And God saw that it was good. 22God blessed them, saying, 'Be
fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds
multiply on the earth.' 23And there was evening and there was morning,
the fifth day.
24 And God said, 'Let the earth bring forth living creatures of every
kind: cattle and creeping things and wild animals of the earth of every
kind.' And it was so. 25God made the wild animals of the earth of every
kind, and the cattle of every kind, and everything that creeps upon the
ground of every kind. And God saw that it was good.
26 Then God said, 'Let us make humankind* in our image, according to our
likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over
the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the wild animals
of the earth,* and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the
earth.'
27So God created humankind* in his image,
   in the image of God he created them;*
   male and female he created them.
28God blessed them, and God said to them, 'Be fruitful and multiply, and
fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea
and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves
upon the earth.' 29God said, 'See, I have given you every plant yielding
seed that is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in
its fruit; you shall have them for food. 30And to every beast of the
earth, and to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on
the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every
green plant for food.' And it was so. 31God saw everything that he had
made, and indeed, it was very good. And there was evening and there was
morning, the sixth day.
2Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all their multitude.
2And on the seventh day God finished the work that he had done, and he
rested on the seventh day from all the work that he had done. 3So God
blessed the seventh day and hallowed it, because on it God rested from
all the work that he had done in creation.

Ephesians 1:3-14

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed
us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4just
as he chose us in Christ* before the foundation of the world to be holy
and blameless before him in love. 5He destined us for adoption as his
children through Jesus Christ, according to the good pleasure of his
will, 6to the praise of his glorious grace that he freely bestowed on us
in the Beloved. 7In him we have redemption through his blood, the
forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace
8that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and insight 9he has made known
to us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure that he
set forth in Christ, 10as a plan for the fullness of time, to gather up
all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth. 11In Christ we
have also obtained an inheritance,* having been destined according to
the purpose of him who accomplishes all things according to his counsel
and will, 12so that we, who were the first to set our hope on Christ,
might live for the praise of his glory. 13In him you also, when you had
heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and had believed
in him, were marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit; 14this*
is the pledge of our inheritance towards redemption as God's own people,
to the praise of his glory.

John 1:29-34

The next day he saw Jesus coming towards him and declared, 'Here is the
Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! 30This is he of whom I
said, "After me comes a man who ranks ahead of me because he was before
me." 31I myself did not know him; but I came baptizing with water for
this reason, that he might be revealed to Israel.' 32And John testified,
'I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it remained on
him. 33I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize
with water said to me, "He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain
is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit." 34And I myself have seen
and have testified that this is the Son of God.'*

Morning Psalms:  Psalm 146, 147

Psalm 146

Praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord, O my soul!
2I will praise the Lord as long as I live;
   I will sing praises to my God all my life long.

3Do not put your trust in princes,
   in mortals, in whom there is no help.
4When their breath departs, they return to the earth;
   on that very day their plans perish.

5Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob,
   whose hope is in the Lord their God,
6who made heaven and earth,
   the sea, and all that is in them;
who keeps faith for ever;
7   who executes justice for the oppressed;
   who gives food to the hungry.

The Lord sets the prisoners free;
8 the Lord opens the eyes of the blind.
The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down;
   the Lord loves the righteous.
9The Lord watches over the strangers;
   he upholds the orphan and the widow,
   but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin.

10The Lord will reign for ever,
   your God, O Zion, for all generations.
Praise the Lord!

Psalm 147

Praise the Lord!
How good it is to sing praises to our God;
   for he is gracious, and a song of praise is fitting.
2The Lord builds up Jerusalem;
   he gathers the outcasts of Israel.
3He heals the broken-hearted,
   and binds up their wounds.
4He determines the number of the stars;
   he gives to all of them their names.
5Great is our Lord, and abundant in power;
   his understanding is beyond measure.
6The Lord lifts up the downtrodden;
   he casts the wicked to the ground.

7Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving;
   make melody to our God on the lyre.
8He covers the heavens with clouds,
   prepares rain for the earth,
   makes grass grow on the hills.
9He gives to the animals their food,
   and to the young ravens when they cry.
10His delight is not in the strength of the horse,
   nor his pleasure in the speed of a runner;*
11but the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him,
   in those who hope in his steadfast love.

12Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem!
   Praise your God, O Zion!
13For he strengthens the bars of your gates;
   he blesses your children within you.
14He grants peace* within your borders;
   he fills you with the finest of wheat.
15He sends out his command to the earth;
   his word runs swiftly.
16He gives snow like wool;
   he scatters frost like ashes.
17He hurls down hail like crumbs-
   who can stand before his cold?
18He sends out his word, and melts them;
   he makes his wind blow, and the waters flow.
19He declares his word to Jacob,
   his statutes and ordinances to Israel.
20He has not dealt thus with any other nation;
   they do not know his ordinances.
Praise the Lord!

Evening Psalms:  Psalm 111, 112, 113

Psalm 111

I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart,
   in the company of the upright, in the congregation.
2Great are the works of the Lord,
   studied by all who delight in them.
3Full of honour and majesty is his work,
   and his righteousness endures for ever.
4He has gained renown by his wonderful deeds;
   the Lord is gracious and merciful.
5He provides food for those who fear him;
   he is ever mindful of his covenant.
6He has shown his people the power of his works,
   in giving them the heritage of the nations.
7The works of his hands are faithful and just;
   all his precepts are trustworthy.
8They are established for ever and ever,
   to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness.
9He sent redemption to his people;
   he has commanded his covenant for ever.
   Holy and awesome is his name.
10The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
   all those who practise it* have a good understanding.
   His praise endures for ever.

Psalm 112

Praise the Lord!
   Happy are those who fear the Lord,
   who greatly delight in his commandments.
2Their descendants will be mighty in the land;
   the generation of the upright will be blessed.
3Wealth and riches are in their houses,
   and their righteousness endures for ever.
4They rise in the darkness as a light for the upright;
   they are gracious, merciful, and righteous.
5It is well with those who deal generously and lend,
   who conduct their affairs with justice.
6For the righteous will never be moved;
   they will be remembered for ever.
7They are not afraid of evil tidings;
   their hearts are firm, secure in the Lord.
8Their hearts are steady, they will not be afraid;
   in the end they will look in triumph on their foes.
9They have distributed freely, they have given to the poor;
   their righteousness endures for ever;
   their horn is exalted in honour.
10The wicked see it and are angry;
   they gnash their teeth and melt away;
   the desire of the wicked comes to nothing.

Psalm 113

Praise the Lord!
Praise, O servants of the Lord;
   praise the name of the Lord.

2Blessed be the name of the Lord
   from this time on and for evermore.
3From the rising of the sun to its setting
   the name of the Lord is to be praised.
4The Lord is high above all nations,
   and his glory above the heavens.

5Who is like the Lord our God,
   who is seated on high,
6who looks far down
   on the heavens and the earth?
7He raises the poor from the dust,
   and lifts the needy from the ash heap,
8to make them sit with princes,
   with the princes of his people.
9He gives the barren woman a home,
   making her the joyous mother of children.
Praise the Lord!
